Pro player shares court, tips with
schools' tennis teams
By Julius Whigham
Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, April 13, 2005
Since Vince Spadea left the St.
Andrew's school to become a
professional tennis player more
than a decade ago, he has
become accustomed to playing
in front of large crowds around
the world.
On a recent afternoon at the
Delray Beach Tennis Center, the
stands surrounding the center
court were empty, but Spadea
still found himself performing
before a captive audience....
SPADEA'S ADVICE TAKES
CENTER COURT IN DELRAY

"This is a great chance for
a lot of kids to see what
it's like to be a pro tennis
player, what my
personality is like and
maybe it will inspire them
to work hard and to play
tennis like I did," he said.
"I'd love to do this anytime
I get a free chance. It's not
like a once-a-year type
affair."

down to July 26. Vindawg and Venus-We all know that Vince Spadea (the
votes are in and his official hip-hop name is Vindawg; you can get that
Vince-Sanity and Vitty Cent garbage out my face, yo!) is an aspiring
rapper, in addition to serving as the ultimate role model for anyone who
has ever contemplated suicide after losing a gazillion tennis matches in a
row (he set a new ATP benchmark with a 21-match losing streak in 2000,
but he came back shtrong in the years that followed). Well, it’s all good
for Vindawg these days.....

"I know that in his Carson Davis Cup blog, Jason Brown posted up a celebrity run-in with Anthony Kiedis
of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. And I had a celebrity run-in of my own on Saturday here in Delray Beach
that I’d like to tell you about None other than the Vince of Spades, the Italian Galdiat-ee-a – Vince Spadea!
Vince was here at the Delray Tennis Center to watch the U.S. Fed Cup team put on an amazing
performance. A rapper, classical piano player and all-around charismatic individual, Spadea is one of the
most entertaining tennis players on tour and from what I heard he was showcasing some of that world-
famous personality with the fans around the grounds. Okay, I guess I need to be fully honest here. I didn’
t actually see Vince myself, but I do know he was here and couldn’t figure out a better way to mention his
name and put this photo in the blog than to talk about it as a celebrity sighting I had. Forgive me. Anyway,
here’s his picture from Saturday..."

Peter Bodos www.peterbodostennisworld.com: Straight Outta Boca It’s here—the Vince Spadea website!
Spadea's also back in the Top 50 in the most recent ATP rankings—as if that matters when you look as fly as Vince
does in his wife-beater and khaki cargo shorts (scroll down the home page). Too bad about that caption, though:
"Once I get cooled down I can dress more casual." Anybody care to suggest an alternative? As many of you know,
Vince bills himself as the tennis rapper, and this site now gives you exclusive access to Vince keepin’ it real, in that
very special Spadea way that we’ve all come to know and love. Watch out, Fitty, Diddy, Jay-Z, Lil’ Kim, et al. Vinny’s off
the leash! (continued at website) Click MAY in Archives, Scroll down to Tuesday May 17, 2005 9AM

Fresh Vince-Peter Bodos Posted 6/16/05
As many of you know, TennisWorld is mos’ down with the man trying to bring a little hip hop into the tennis mainstream, Vince
Spadea. We’re bummed out that we couldn’t attend and record for posterity details of Vinnie’s stint as “celebrity server” at Doc’s All-
American Grill Dairy in Delray Beach. Fla., about a week ago. Same old story--a day late and a dollar short. Word. So we missed out
on the foot-long, all beef hotdogs, floats, shakes and cheese steaks. We heard through the grapevine, though, that it was a real
throwdown – you can check out photos at the website www.vincespadea.com that invites you to “Follow all of the latest and greatest
stories and updates of Vince’s life, appearances, and tour event matches on the ONLY official Vince Spadea website.” We’re feeling
a little sheepish about all the complications we caused by suggesting that Vince change his name to “Vitty Cent” (He’s recovering
nicely from those four slugs he took to the colon). Judging from the press release issued by the Delray Beach Tennis Center (a
portion of the proceeds from the event at Doc’s went to support the center’s worthy tennis programs) Vince is now alternately known
as “Vince-Sanity.” I know what you’re thinking: kind of like Andy Roddick going by “A-Rod.” I’ve always had a problem with nickname-
theft; doesn’t it always carry the taint of the wannabe? I mean, has anybody asked the original A-Rod (New York Yankees infielder
Alex Rodriguez) what he thinks about this? How does NBA star Vince Carter feel knowing that there’s a 5-11 white guy with fat legs
out there who answers to the cry, “Yo! Vince-Sanity, what-up, homey?” Here’s a compromise solution. TENNIS’ Editor-at-Large,
Sadda . . . er, Mark Woodruff, shot me an e-mail to alert me to Spadea’s Doc’s appearance, choosing for his subject line, “Fresh
Vince.”
I like it! What say, folks?
